.223 Remington

Lead-free primer .223 for AR training

EcoBullet .223 Remington pairs a lead-free primer with a standard 55 grain full metal jacket bullet. The change is in the primer: no lead styphnate in the smoke at ignition, so less toxic lead at the firing line, which matters most in enclosed rifle bays where an AR puts its smoke at eye level. The bullet is a conventional lead-core FMJ with an open base, and we say so plainly: this is a training round, not a nonlead hunting load.

Who it's for

Shooters who train often, especially indoors; instructors and range officers who stand behind the line all day; and ranges and agencies that want to reduce lead at the source instead of leaving it all to ventilation. Our co-founder Roland Polzin, a former German Army officer and certified military shooting instructor, spent years behind the firing line, and that's where this load comes from: the people who shoot the most are often the instructors and range staff who breathe the range air all day.

It isn't for hunting: a full metal jacket doesn't expand, many states don't allow FMJ for big game, and it doesn't count as nonlead ammunition where that's required. For the regulatory side of range lead, see why ranges are switching to lead-free training ammunition.
