Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about lead-free ammunition, shipping, and how EcoBullet works.

Product & Performance

What is TMJ (Total Metal Jacket)?

TMJ stands for Total Metal Jacket. Unlike FMJ, which leaves the base exposed, TMJ bullets are completely encased in copper, including the base. This eliminates lead vaporization when fired.

What is the difference between TMJ and FMJ?

FMJ leaves the bullet base exposed, causing lead vaporization on firing. TMJ encases the entire bullet, including the base, in copper. Both perform similarly for training, but TMJ is significantly cleaner and safer.

Is EcoBullet ammo safe for indoor ranges?

Yes. Our TMJ construction fully encases the base, significantly reducing lead vapor. Combined with lead-free primers, EcoBullet is one of the cleanest training rounds for indoor use.

Is the brass reloadable?

Yes. We use recycled brass cases that are fully reloadable, inspected and processed to SAAMI specifications.

What is CPR (Cost Per Round)?

CPR (Cost Per Round) is a standard metric used to compare value across different box sizes and products: box price divided by round count. For example, a box of 50 rounds at $19.99 = $0.40/round. Comparing CPR is the most honest way to evaluate ammunition value, rather than comparing box prices that vary by round count.

Shipping & Legal

Where do you ship?

We ship directly to most US states via ground carrier. A handful of states (California, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Illinois, and Hawaii) require ammunition to be transferred through a licensed FFL dealer or additional verification. See our Shipping & Returns page for details.

Do I need an FFL to buy ammo online?

In most states, no. A handful of states (CA, MA, NY, NJ, CT, IL, HI) require ammunition to be transferred through a local FFL dealer. This is a state-level regulation, not a federal requirement.

What does DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) mean for ammo?

DTC means we ship ammunition straight to your door, without a pickup at a gun store. Most states allow DTC ammo purchases. In restricted states, orders are routed through a licensed FFL dealer, who handles the transfer to the end buyer.

How old do I have to be to order?

You must be at least 21 years of age to order from EcoBullet, and you must not be prohibited by law from purchasing or possessing ammunition. An adult signature may be required at delivery. Full details are in our Terms & Conditions.

Sustainability & Brand

What does CO₂-neutral mean for ammunition?

EcoBullet offsets the carbon footprint of our manufacturing and logistics operations through verified carbon offset credits. This covers the energy used in brass processing, shipping emissions, and facility operations. The net carbon impact of producing and delivering our ammo is zero. Our use of recycled brass also reduces the energy needed versus smelting virgin copper and zinc.

How is EcoBullet veteran-owned?

EcoBullet was founded by a US military veteran based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The company is majority-owned and operated by the founding veteran, qualifying us as a Veteran-Owned Small Business (VOSB). Supporting EcoBullet means supporting veteran entrepreneurship and a business built on the values of precision, accountability, and service, to customers and to the environment alike.
